| About the College |
| Hans Raj College was set up on 26th July, 1948 by the DAV Managing
Committee - the largest NGO educational organization in the country. The college was set up in
the memory of Mahatma Hans Raj, the founding father of both the DAV movement and the DAV College
Lahore. The college initially functioned from the premises of the DAV school on Chitragupta Road. It was subsequently given a grant of Rs 2 lacs and fifteen acres of land by the University. Construction of the college building started in 1953 and the college premises were finally inaugurated on the 3rd of October, 1954. The college has continually expanded, both in scope and infrastructure, over the past 60 years and is now regarded as a premier constituent of Delhi University. |

| Size, Infrastructure, Facilities |
| Over the years Hans Raj College has gone from a single, central building to a
sprawling complex of multi- storeyed buildings. The facilities include a large students hostel;
separate central and departmental libraries with over 1,35,000 titles and well equipped science
and computer labs. Sports facilities are comprehensive and available for both indoor and outdoor sports. The college has been the recipient of the Chancellor's Trophy in 2003- 2004 and 2004- 2005 for overall excellence in sports. Hans Raj is one of the few colleges in the country to possess both an indoor badminton court and an indoor shooting range. The total strength of the college is about 5000 students. |
