The Institute of Home Economics was set up in 1961 and initially functioned
out of a small premises in South Extension. At the time of establishment the only course offered was
a diploma in Home Science. The college obtained Delhi University affiliation in 1969 and started running
a B.Sc. program in Home Science. Its flagship B.Sc. (Honours) program in Home Science was started in
1973. The college shifted to a much larger campus in Hauz Khas in 2001 and continues to function from
there till date. A complete range of courses from Bachelors to Doctoral programs is now available along
with several certificate courses.

Size, Infrastructure, Facilities
The college functions out of a well endowed 3.5 acre campus in the heart of
South Delhi. The entire campus is WiFi enabled. The facilities available include a central library
and 11 departmental libraries with a total collection of 22500 titles; well equipped basic and applied
science labs; three computer labs; a state of the art audio studio housed in sound proofed rooms and a
gymnasium. The strength of the college is about 1500 students.
